NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Commission of the City of Jordan, Scott County, Minnesota, will conduct a public hearing to accept public input on text amendments that would enact the following changes:

Amend Table A in Chapter 153 to update the formula used to calculate park dedication for residential subdivisions.

Amend Table A in Chapter 154 to increase the maximum building height in the Multiple-Family Residential District (R-4).

The hearing will be held on Tuesday December 8th, 2020 at approximately 6:30 p.m. or shortly thereafter at the Jordan City Council Chambers, located at 116 East First Street in the City of Jordan, Minnesota.

The draft ordinance will amend City Code Sections 113.01-113.03, 113.05-113.08, and 113.99 to increase the age to purchase, possess, and use tobacco, tobacco products, tobacco-related devices, electronic delivery devices, and nicotine or lobelia delivery products to 21 years of age.

The public hearing will be conducted on Monday September 21, 2020 at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the Jordan City Council Chambers, located at 116 East First Street in the City of Jordan, Minnesota. The purpose of the public hearing is to accept input on the proposed ordinance amendment. The City Council will then vote on the proposed Ordinance 2020-05 after the public hearing.

The City is interested in the public’s input on the landscaping within and surrounding the roundabout. Jordan, MN. – At its regularly scheduled City Council Meeting on Monday, August 3, 2020, the Jordan City Council unanimously approved a resolution to proclaim the week of August 9 through August 15 to be Mayor Ron Jabs Week in the City of Jordan.

City Council members shared fond memories and valued lessons taught by former City Council member, Mayor, and Economic Development Authority Chair Ronald Jabs.  During his many years of public service, Mayor Jabs made many lasting contributions to the City of Jordan. Mayor Velishek read the Proclamation aloud to those observing the meeting in person and online. A copy of the proclamation can be found at the following link.

Consider Running for Jordan City Council

Candidate filings will be open July 28th – August 11th for the four seats open on the City of Jordan City Council.

Open positions are for the Mayor and three Councilmembers. Each position has a four year term beginning in January of 2021.

How to file for office:

To apply for one of the vacancies on the City Council, you must fill out an Affidavit of Candidacy application at City Hall located at 210 E. 1st Street from July 28 through August 11 between the hours of 8:30 and 5:00 p.m. The following criteria must be met to file for office:

    • The candidate must be an eligible voter
    • The candidate has maintained residence in the city for 30 days before the election
    • The candidate must pay the $2 filing fee at the time of filing
    • The candidate is, or will be on assuming the office, 21 years of age or more

Notice of Continued City Facility Closure due to COVID-19 update – City Hall opening May 18, 2020

All city facilities will remain closed to the public until May 18; City Hall will open for in-person customer service Monday, May 18th.  

May 15, 2020 – As of Monday, May 18th, City Hall will be opening per the Emergency Executive Order 20-56.  We applied to the State to be allowed to open our DMV to in person customer service and were approved.  To be considered for opening to in-person customer service we have to prepare a safety plan.  Attached is our plan Jordan COVID-19 Preparedness Plan.  Any customers please try to follow these safety precautions that apply to you.  We too need to follow the State guidelines on safety.  This includes limited access and the number of customers in at one time.   Anything that does not need in-person help please try to use our drop box or mail from this like vehicle tabs and water bills.  Thank you, for your patience and understanding.

 

March 30, 2020 – MN Executive Order 20-20 by Governor Walz directed all Minnesota Residents to Stay at Home. This Stay at Home order was extended to May 18, through Executive Order 20-48. All city facilities will remain closed to the public until May 18, the date when the most recent executive order expires. This includes city hall, the fire station, and the police station.

City staff will continue to work in all facilities in a limited capacity to provide essential city services. You are encouraged to connect with city staff through the city website, by phone and by email. If you have business that is time-sensitive and must be conducted in person, call (952) 492-2535 to make an appointment. City staff will do their best to accommodate your request.

The City of Jordan has been working with local, county, and state partners to help protect the health and wellness of both the community and employees during the rapidly changing coronavirus outbreak. As transmission has changed in Minnesota from travel-related to community spread, the city is making these changes while still ensuring it can provide essential services to residents.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Jordan, Scott County, Minnesota, will vote on the proposed ordinance amendment for the City of Jordan’s Ordinance 2020-02.

  The amendment increases the fee for lawn mowing and establishes administrative citation fees associated with enforcement of the Residential Rental Licensing and Inspection Ordinance, Jordan City Code Chapter 124.

The vote will occur at the May 18, 2020 meeting at 6:30 p.m. or shortly thereafter, at the Jordan City Council Chambers, located at 116 East First Street in the City of Jordan, Minnesota.

Notice: Hydrant Flushing to Begin Monday, May 11

Public Works will Begin Flushing Hydrants Monday, May 11.

Public Works will start flushing hydrants Monday, May 11 for a period expected to take two weeks. If you have rusty water, turn on the outside faucets first and then all inside faucets to flush your system. The water should clear up in 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on out for signs in your neighborhood with specific dates when the flushing will occur.

 

Notice: City Deputy Registrar to process Tabs and Dealer Work

The City of Jordan will begin processing License Tab Renewals beginning Monday, May 4, 2020.

Deputy Registrar Work During Shutdown:

The City of Jordan will not be taking ANY other types of work other than TABS and DEALER Work.

These changes do not apply to any other department – other departmental policies will continue to be enforced (e.g. building permits)

There will be no person-to-person contact between city employees and non-employees. 

The Process for Tab Renewals is as follows:

  • Renewals and payment will be placed in the City’s drop box (located at City Hall).
  • Renewal paperwork will be collected and will sit until the next day before it is processed to avoid possible transmission.
  • Once completed, tabs will be returned to the customer via US mail.
