Business of the Week:  Chiropractic Specialists

About Us

Our company is based on the belief that our customers’ needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.

We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.

Why Jordan?

I moved to Minnesota looking to start a chiropractic clinic in 1999.  I was looking for a community that was close to the Twin Cities, but far enough away to have a small town atmosphere.  Then one day I was driving to my home town of Algona, Iowa and decided to investigate Jordan for consideration of opening my chiropractic office.  I fell in love with the community immediately.  I loved the old downtown, the Mill Pond Park and waterfall area, the old brewery and the Mini Met Baseball Park. It was perfect and I knew that Jordan was where I wanted to practice, live and raise a family.  I started my clinic in Jordan in August of 1999, moved here immediately and have felt blessed every day since.

Chiropractic has been a great profession for me personally.  It has allowed me to help thousands of people feel better and get healthier without the use of drugs and surgery.  I come to work excited about seeing people getting out of pain, teaching them how to stay pain free and most importantly how to maintain good health and wellness throughout their lives.

– Dr. Chuck Cook

History of the Business:

Pekarna Meats was started by a Bohemia man named Frank Pekarna. Frank learned a lot of his knowledge of the meat market business while working for a gentleman named Conrad Fishbach. Throughout the years many of the traditions and recipes were developed. Frank, Conrad and Frank’s future partner Henry Arens, all married sisters from the Henkels family. Frank and Henry bought the business together after their brother-in-law, Conrad passed away. Frank bought Henry’s part of the family business and operated it on his own until 1922. Frank’s sons, Ted and Ed, worked at caring on the family business and traditions going. In 1931 Frank’s youngest son Joe, took over the business from his older brothers. Joe carried on the traditions until he passed away in 1970. At this time the third generation, Joe’s oldest son, Frank and his wife Cele, took on the responsibilities of running the business. Frank and Cele worked hard at keeping all the traditions going. In 1991, the family business was taken over by Frank and Cele’s sons John, Ken and Gregg Pekarna. Many of the same traditions from many years ago, including Great Grandpa’s recipes, are still carried out today.

MORE ABOUT GREG:

Graphic Design

www.preslickastudio.com

Twenty years ago my wife and I opened a graphic design business and have been doing that business ever since. I have doing graphic design for many large companies like General Mills, IDQ, Malt-O-Meal and more. My work includes logos, package design, signage, point of sale materials, and ads.

The Big Picture Murals www.thebigpicturermurals.net

In 2008 we started a business doing wall murals. This business gave me the opportunity to get out from behind my computer. I thoroughly enjoy the whole process of mural creation – from the initial meetings, to brainstorming, to illustrating on the computer, to finally when the paint hits the wall. I enjoy developing a learning component with the project and involving community members and students. The hands-on process adds even more value to a project. I enjoy painting for all ages and for all types of spaces – libraries, community centers, environmental learning centers, schools, daycare, psychiatrists office and many more. I enjoy coming up with a “solution” to the space to achieve my client’s goals. Each mural is carefully concepted and designed before painted. The murals are designed to work with the space and enhance the environment.

Fine Art

I have been a landscape painter (painting en plein air) for nine years. I started as a way to better understand the light in nature so as to be a better studio painter. I paint for the experience. Finding a location. Choosing the view. Setting up. Braving the elements. Dealing with changes in light and weather. Feeling a part of the scene I am painting. These are all an integral part of my paintings. Many times I will look at one of my paintings and have only a faint recollection of how I went from a blank board to the finished painting. I will however have an intimate memory of the way the wind was blowing and how many clouds passed by. When someone views one of my paintings I hope they in some way experience what I did. I want them totally unaware to the way I applied the paint or the composition or the colors I chose. I would much rather hear someone say about a painting, “It sure looks cold there” than say, “I love the color you used for the sky.”

Greg and his wife and business partner Heidi both grew up in New Prague and have lived in Scott County their whole lives.
