Progress in Jordan – Brentwood Terrace

The Scott County Community Development Agency (CDA) recently received its approvals to construct 59-units of senior housing in the City of Jordan. This project, called Brentwood Terrace, is the second phase of senior apartments funded by the Scott County CDA.

Brentwood Terrace represents a significant investment in the City of Jordan and an opportunity for older Jordan residents to continue to live in the community even as they age out of their single-family homes. The 59-unit project is made up of Studio, 1 and 2-bedroom units along with amenities including a salon, club room, and fitness and community rooms.

The project is not just a win for the City’s older residents, however. Housing stock currently occupied by older residents can be a perfect example of what is known as “naturally occurring affordable housing” (NOAH). As older residents age out of their homes, those homes become available to younger residents. They’re often more affordable for homebuyers than a newly constructed home.

A public groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for November 18th at 4pm. Completion of Brentwood Phase 2 is expected sometime in early 2021.

Residents with questions about the project are welcome to contact the Scott County CDA at 952-426-4088, cda-info@scottcda.org, or visit scottcda.org

Contribution to mental health awareness & suicide prevention

Our Story Continues; On June 2, 2017, at the age of 21, Nick lost his battle with mental illness. Many people who know Nick credit him for always being there for when they were suffering and struggling; he would drop everything to be there for a friend in crisis. Even with the support of his family, partner Brian, close friends and though he tried to help himself by reaching out for help by getting psychiatric care and medication, in the end, the lies told by mental illness took him from us. It is because of Nick that we are continuing “his story” by joining forces with NAMI MN to raise awareness for mental illness and erase the stigma associated with suicide. For more information about NAMI Minnesota, go to their website – www.namihelps.org.

We welcome you to join us in our efforts to raise money for mental illness awareness, suicide prevention, education in schools and to support our charitable partner, NAMI Minnesota.

Business of the Week: March 22, 2019 – John Breunig

Business of the Week:  Jordan Deputy Registrar – John Breunig

Everyone says they have the best employees but everyone else might just be wrong.  Since 1978 we have had the one of the best employees you could ask for.  You will have a hard time arguing with us that we don’t just have the best.

John Breunig is retiring and today is his last day.  He has been the fabric of our customer service at our DMV for so many years and we have all been very spoiled.  John’s infectious attitude of helping other has molded our staff to try to do the same.  He helps and cares for people which makes the rest of our staff want to help each other and care for one another.  Our Deputy Registrar office is known throughout the area to have some of the best customer service in a very challenging customer service business.  John is one of the main reasons for this. He has taught every staff member at the City the meaning of helping people with a smile, sometimes a joke and enjoying your job.   John is truly one of the nicest people you will meet and he makes our community that much better by him doing his thing.  At his job, around town and just the way he lives his life, he makes our community better.

So many people come in our office each day and ask for John already.  Its always, “Is John here?”  We have bets that might happen for many years after he retires.  Each time it does happen from now on, we will have a tear in the corner of our eyes but still get a fond memory of working with our friend & co-worker, John Breunig.  Not that you are gone from our lives, just our work lives.  You will need to come visit us.  Maybe at 5:00pm every day for Jeopardy.

Our community is going to miss John as our Deputy Registrar.  We as a city are going to miss him very much every day.  If you see him around town wish him well in his retirement.  He deserves all the best for the job he has done for us all for so many years.  We hope you have a long and happy retirement.  You earned big guy.  Thank you, John!

“Well done, good and faithful servant!” – Matthew 25:23

Now some about the Jordan Deputy Registrar Office at City Hall.  We are sure John doesn’t want this all be about him:  Here are our hours and what services we can provide for you.  Please buy your tabs & licenses from us and a part of the fees does stay with the City.  This helps us and potentially could help keep your taxes down.  Plus we are convenient and provide extremely friendly services.
