City-wide Yard Waste Pickup Day: Saturday, November 2nd

The City-wide Yard Waste  Pickup Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd.  All bags must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. in a compostable bag.

Yard waste includes all garden waste, grass clippings, leaves, weeds, wood chips, twigs and branches.

Yard, garden and tree waste can be recycled into compost. In fact, putting it in your garbage is illegal in Minnesota. Leaves, grass and plant trimmings, along with some types of food waste, can be combined in a backyard compost bin to create a valuable soil additive for your lawn and garden. That is recycling at its best! Later use the finished compost to improve your soil or as mulch around plants.

Compostable Bag Law
Did you know? Per State law, residents in the Twin Cities area who bag their yard and organic waste are required to put their waste out for pickup in compostable bags–either paper bags or compostable bags. Plastic bags can be used when delivering yard and organic waste to a drop-off site, however, material must be de-bagged. Plastic bags should be reused or disposed of through residential garbage service.

Public Open House: TH 169 / TH 282 / CR 9 Interchange Concept Design

Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.
(No formal presentation is planned. Please stop by at any time)
Jordan City Council Chambers and History Center
116 East First Street, Jordan, MN 55352

The City of Jordan, along with project partners Scott County and MnDOT, has been studying potential alternatives for the construction of an interchange at the TH 169 / TH 282 / CR 9 intersection.  Concept designs have been developed for five interchange options and an open house is being held to share information and gather input on the alternatives.  The City is looking for feedback to help determine a preferred design for the interchange.  The interchange improvements are not yet funded for final design or construction so there is currently no timeline for the construction of the improvements.

Business of the Week: Behr Design

Behr Design, Inc., has been in business for over 13 years, during this time we have been delighted to assist many of our fabulous clients in creating, planning and instilling the design of their dream!

Michael Behr, is the owner/designer. He started his design journey over 17 years ago, he has enjoyed working in almost every aspect of the construction industry. Michael has experience in: residential home design and remodeling, new construction, structural calculations, current construction codes and the latest and greatest knowledge of the Green Building movement. On the green building front, incorporating energy star appliances into your home is a start but as we look at an overall project there are a lot of opportunities to be conscience of the environment. From passive solar, using renewable building products, low VOC paints, high performance insulation, high performance windows to something as simple as recycling building waste. If being green is important to you, we can help you find something that fits into your budget and possibly pays you back. Michael completed his certificate for Minnesota Green Star.

Construction knowledge and design ability has proven to be a great asset to Michael as he continues to grow as a designer and business owner. He has recently designed several remodels and when remodeling, having good construction knowledge is key. He looks at the project through the eyes of a builder, seeing the difficulties and restrictions of the existing structure and knows how to achieve the goals of the project. The same said can be said of new construction. If there is ever an on-site construction question during the building process he can generally figure out a good clean way to fix the problem or will call on one of his associates if the situation is out of his realm of knowledge.

Business of the Week: Suzette’s Restaurant and Jordan Supper Club and Tap

It has been a long summer of construction but the intersection of 169 and 59 is now completely open!  Stop in over the weekend to visit Suzette’s Restaurant and Jordan Supper Club and Tap.  Both offer something unique.

Suzette’s Restaurant

If you’re ready for a fine-dining experience, it’s time to visit Suzette’s Restaurant, the “hidden gem in Jordan, Minnesota!”  5-star Chef Banrith Yong, a native of Cambodia, studied culinary arts in the French portion of Switzerland before coming to Minnesota. He was previously a chef at a place called Swiss Alps in Highland Park, and at the Whitney Hotel. In 1998, Banrith Yong along with his wife Joleen and their family decided to open the European restaurant “Suzettes”. As a result of the their amazing work ethics and Banrith’s first class culinary skills, Suzette’s is frequented by those near and far and has become a popular meeting spot for those meeting-in-the-middle between Mankato and the Twin Cities.

Jordan Supper Club and Tap

Come for dinner, stay for the drinks, leave feeling like family.  You won’t find a place quite like this anywhere else in Scott County.  Jordan Supper Club reflects country character with a cozy, modern design appeal.  With a creative group of trained chefs, the cuisine at Jordan Supper Club is reflective of the latest trends for ingredients, style, and preparation.  There is an excellent selection of food and craft drinks!
