Press Release: City of Jordan Recognized for Sustainability Initiatives

The City of Jordan has been recognized with the highest step in the Minnesota GreenStep City Program, Step 5. Jordan is one of 143 participating cities and tribal nations in the 11-year-old challenge, assistance, and recognition program. After first joining the program at Step 1 in 2015, the City leapt to Step 3 in 2019, Step 4 in 2020, and has now achieved the top step, Step 5.

Join the Nickel Open Fund and Roets Jordan Brewing this Friday starting at 5pm for the global release of an IPA supporting Mental Health Awareness. Support of this event helps to fund the Nickel Open, a local non-profit committed to raising awareness, building a community of hope for all, destigmatize mental illness & advocate for suicide prevention.

Is patio season finally, officially, upon us? Join the Pickled Pig as they celebrate the grand opening of their patio this weekend! Specials, a meat raffle and live music will all be available for patrons. Thanks to continued support from members of the community, the forecast is looking strong for Jordan’s local businesses. Notice: City Clean Up Day is May 22, 2021

Dick’s Sanitation, Inc. (DSI) will be conducting the City-Wide Cleanup Day at the Police Department located at 705 Syndicate Street.  Hours for the cleanup are 7:00 am.—11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22Drop-off is only for City of Jordan residents (excluding Valley Green*) and is free of charge. You must show proof of residence.

Items accepted: Household garbage (couches, furniture etc.), humidifiers, appliances including: dishwashers, dryers, freezers, furnaces, garbage disposals, humidifiers, microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, trash compactors, washers, water heaters, batteries, tires, grills, (lawnmowers and snow blowers drained of all fluids or they will not be accepted), bulk items and construction waste such as windows, doors, lumber, shingles, sheetrock, and scrap metal.

Items not accepted: Paints, sludge, tar, liquids, thinners, fertilizer, pesticides, mattresses, yard waste, and brush.

Household hazardous waste will not be accepted.  Household hazardous waste can be taken to the Scott County Household Hazardous Waste Facility. To schedule a drop-off appointment please visit Scott County’s Website or call 952-496-8787.

Yard Waste will not be accepted. City of Jordan residents can sign up to use the Household Organics and Yard Waste drop-off by signing up here.

Mattresses will not be accepted. You can visit Second Chance Recycling for information on recycling.

*Valley Green has a separate cleanup day and contract with DSI.
